Iya’s Bread & Roses

Mr. Moxey’s 2022

Pride Artist Feature

By Lou Daprile (they/them) Mr. Moxey's Brand Specialist

On a gloomy afternoon in Olympia Washington, painted in pink and burst of cottage core, an artist stood with her easel and a unique portable canvas – a tin of Mr. Moxey’s. Rainbow train tracks paved the way to Iya (they/she/we), a queer Transfemme Artist, as they posed with a set of tins that were anything but ordinary…

“While simple paintings of bread, pastries, and flowers, I see them as nods to the mints being my little luxuries in life”

– Iya

Bread and Roses is an old suffragette slogan arguing that everyone is deserving of basic necessities as well as simple pleasures, and that both are needed to live a fulfilling life. “While simple paintings of bread, pastries, and flowers, I see them as nods to the mints being my little luxuries in life,” said Iya.

When Iya’s artwork first appeared in Mr. Moxey’s inbox we knew something incredibly special had found us. She introduced her project “Bread & Roses,” a set of paintings delicately created on our very own mint tins. Immediately her vibrant style captured our attention, but then upon a closer look we discovered that “Bread & Roses” was a project that encapsulated the values of Mr. Moxey’s itself.

This year for Pride Mr. Moxey’s is centering Iya’s art as well as the message that we all deserve Bread and Roses. Care and pleasure have always been at the forefront of the queer liberation movement, and we hope that you find your little luxuries this June, as well as every day of the year.
